Q: How do I select a student to attend the Missouri Leadership Seminar?
A: The method by which you make your schools selection is entirely up to you. Any sophomore student is eligible to attend and the selection process is up to you. If there is already a nomination process at your school, fabulous! If there is not, please select a student who is a sophomore in the ‘06-‘07 school year. Past leaders have excelled academically, in athletics, extra-curricular activities, or community service. The choice is up to you. Our goal in this leadership seminar is to cultivate leadership qualities in the person you nominate. Some of our past attendees have been noted as “a student who just needed an extra “nudge” to reach the leadership potential inside.
Some schools use an essay process by use of an English course, perhaps an outside civic club committee may interview applicants or a selected group of teachers & faculty committee review the sophomore students and make a selection.
Q: What makes Missouri Leadership Seminar different from other leadership seminars?
A: We provide the students with various interactive sessions with a wide variety of community leaders throughout the seminar weekend and work on leadership skills for sophomore students. We focus on how to bring out the individual leader in each student, rather that you must complete “A, B & C” to be a leader and this is what you should think and say. 100% of our seminar staff and Board of Directors are volunteers and a majority are alumni.
Q: How are sophomore students funded for the Missouri Leadership Seminar?
A: Students are support by individual donations from local civic organizations, such as Optimist, Kiwanis & General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC). Other contributors include the Lions and Rotary clubs in addition to local businesses and individual supporters of the leadership seminar. The approximate cost per student for the 3 day seminar weekend is $200.00. If you have a contact for a civic club in your area that you would like for us to contact regarding sponsorship of your school’s student, please email missourileadership@yahoo.com. Missouri Leadership Seminar is the only leadership seminar in Missouri that is provided with no cost to the school, student or parents.
Q: Where does our student stay and what about meals?
A: All of the students and staff are housed on-site in the dormitories on the campus of CMSU. There are separate male and female floors with staff monitors and security on each floor. Meals are provided from Friday at lunch to Sunday at lunch and accommodations may be made for special dietary needs of your students.
Q: What do I need to do upon nomination of my school’s student?
A: Upon completion of your on-line nomination, you will get an automated email that is generated from our nomination server to confirm that your nomination has been received.
Following this email, an informational and registration packet will be emailed to the school contact email address as well as the student’s email address (if available). Please insure that this packet is delivered to your student to complete with his/her parents and/or guardians. All registration packets are to be returned to our offices by April 1st, 2008. Please note that the registration packets will be emailed to the schools and students on Friday’s. If you nominate your student Monday through Thursday, you will not receive your registration packet until Friday of that week.
Should you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our offices via email at missourileadership@yahoo.com or leave a voicemail at 660.864.3108. Please note return call & email procedures on the enclosed letter.
